Visit from the police

On Monday detective Kate Hyde and constable Gavin Cross came to our school to teach us about the procedures that happen in an investigation.

One of the things that I learn was that there are people that the police use to gather more evidence and they are called the ESR (Environmental Science and Research) and they do DNA (Deoxyribonucleic Acid) testing.  They test for hair/hair roots, blood to link the offender to the victim, clothing fibers and saliva which can be found in food and cigarette butts.  Also in class previous to you the police coming to our school we learnt how the DNA can be amplified even though the sample is small you can increase the amount and this is called PCR (Polymerase Chain Reaction).

Also I learnt ECL (Electronic Crime Lab) is a lab where if you delete something off your electronic device then they will be able to retrace what you have deleted on your device. If the suspect has planned something on their computer or if the police will be interested in something on their computer then they will take the computer to ECL so they can let the police see what they have been doing.   If you have posted or sent something on snapchat, facebook or instagram then it is on the internet for good so the whole wide world can see it.

School Athletics

On Friday the 6th of November we had our school athletics.  The activities I did were 100m, 200m, discus, shot put, long jump and vortex throw.  But I didn't do high jump because I wasn't in the top four.  Then at the end there was the 400m sprints and the 1500m sprints and I also did not qualify for that, and also the 4x100 boys and then the girls.  We won the girls relay but came second in the boys race.
Then there was the big 32x100 relay sprints after the other sprints.  Te Kanawa won the relay with ease.  I had lots of fun and it was a great day.
