CSI story
Constable Mickey and Detective Mike arrived at the hospital, following up a 111 call about a male that had been brutally assaulted and the doctor treating him had disappeared.
The police had sealed the room where the assault happened. There were markings showing where vital evidence had been found.
Constable Mickey and Detective Mike started to investigate what had happened. The first thing they started on was working out why the victim was at the hospital, if he was there to visit a family member or if something had happened to him. They looked at the documents to see if the doctor had written anything saying why the victim was at the hospital.
Constable Mickey said “Detective, I think I have found something you might be interested in”. Detective Mike made his way around all of the evidence, trying not to mess with the clues that could lead them to solving this mystery. The documents said that the victim was here because he had been in a car crash and needed to get his leg amputated. The Constable and the Detective quickly went and saw the other doctors that were involved in the surgery and to ask who the doctor was who disappeared.
They found the other doctors and arranged a meeting to speak with all of them. Some of the doctors didn't turn up but the Detective and the Constable understood why. Detective Mike asked all of them who the doctor was in charge. Then they asked what happened in the surgery room before the man was assaulted. They all explained that Mr Jerry was in charge and he had said to the other doctors they could have a break and he would continue for a little longer. The Constable asked if any of them saw Mr Jerry after he told them to have a break. One of the doctors stood up and said she had seen him leaving the building, talking on the phone to man he called Sneaky, but she knew the man's name wasn't Sneaky.
After the meeting Mickey and Mike went back to the station to find out where Mr Jerry lived and who this mysterious man nicknamed ‘Sneaky’ was. First they ran a check on Sneaky. They found a first name, Darren king. He was put into the system because he was charged of robbery and they needed to find out where they were before they do something the police won't like and get them in big trouble. But before they do anything else they needed to see where Mr Jerry lived. They found where he lived, he lived at 21 trouble street. So they got a search warrant for the house. Then something came through on the radio saying that there had been a break in at 12 Cleaner street.
Then Constable Mickey thought he knew something about that address and then it clicked that house was his house.
They raced to his house and they saw two men running from the property in the shadows with two bags full of Constable Mickey's belongings. They called back up and then chased after the two suspects until they disappeared into the woods.
Backup had arrived soon after the two suspects disappeared into the woods and the police and their dogs hiked into the woods trying to find the two thiefs. The dogs started to pick up a scent that lead the police deeper into the woods until they found a small old house that was a few meters from a small lake. The police knocked on the door and as they knocked the door the door opened and guess who was standing at the door it was Mr Jerry still in his cloths from the hospital. Soon after they arrested Mr Jerry and bombarded the the house and found the two bags next to Darren on his computer selling Constable Mickey's valuable belongings.
They drove the two scumbags to the police station and questioned them. They worked out that the reason Mr Jerry assaulted Peter was because Peter owed Mr Jerry some money from a deal they did two years ago. The two men robbed Constable Mickey's house because the two were bored and needed something to do.
Mr Jerry was sentenced to ten years for robbery and assault, Darren was sentenced to five years for robbery.

Visit from the police
On Monday detective Kate Hyde and constable Gavin Cross came to our school to teach us about the procedures that happen in an investigation.
One of the things that I learn was that there are people that the police use to gather more evidence and they are called the ESR (Environmental Science and Research) and they do DNA (Deoxyribonucleic Acid) testing. They test for hair/hair roots, blood to link the offender to the victim, clothing fibers and saliva which can be found in food and cigarette butts. Also in class previous to you the police coming to our school we learnt how the DNA can be amplified even though the sample is small you can increase the amount and this is called PCR (Polymerase Chain Reaction).
Also I learnt ECL (Electronic Crime Lab) is a lab where if you delete something off your electronic device then they will be able to retrace what you have deleted on your device. If the suspect has planned something on their computer or if the police will be interested in something on their computer then they will take the computer to ECL so they can let the police see what they have been doing. If you have posted or sent something on snapchat, facebook or instagram then it is on the internet for good so the whole wide world can see it.

School Athletics
On Friday the 6th of November we had our school athletics. The activities I did were 100m, 200m, discus, shot put, long jump and vortex throw. But I didn't do high jump because I wasn't in the top four. Then at the end there was the 400m sprints and the 1500m sprints and I also did not qualify for that, and also the 4x100 boys and then the girls. We won the girls relay but came second in the boys race.
Then there was the big 32x100 relay sprints after the other sprints. Te Kanawa won the relay with ease. I had lots of fun and it was a great day.

Persuasive writing
Good friends are important
The reason you have friends is because they are kind by letting you play with them, encouraging you to do stuff, they respect you and many more good things.
Friends should be kind because it makes other people feel better like sharing their stuff with you. If you are feeling sad and you have no one to play with then they will cheer you up by asking if you want to play with them.
Friends are always encouraging you to do stuff that is out of your comfort zone and stuff that you have never experienced before. If you say you don't want to do it then they will keep encouraging you to do it because it could be a great experience.
All friend should show you respect to you. They should respect your things by looking after it and taking care like if you lend someone something they will return it how they gave it to you. Also to show respect they will have good manners like if you were trying to get somewhere quickly then you would say “excuse me”
You need to have good friends to look after you when you are feeling not to good.

Why we brush our teeth
We brush our teeth to prevent diseases and keeping our teeth bright and white.
We brush our teeth to prevent tooth decay and cavities hurting your teeth. You can prevent these things by always brushing our teeth for two minutes twice a day. When you get tooth decay there will be numerous visits to the dentists to get fillings in your mouth to patch up all of the holes in your teeth and money going down the drain. Left, your teeth will start to fall out.
If you don't brush your teeth you can also start to get gum disease which means your gums are really not healthy. To prevent this disease you need to brush everywhere in your mouth because gum disease forms in areas of your mouth where you have not brushed properly. You could have gum disease when you start to get gum redness, bleeding while brushing or flossing, a receding gum line, loose teeth, constant bad breath and mouth sores.
If you have really smelly breath it is because you don't brush properly. When you have a buildup of bacteria then your breath will smell. To get rid of smelly breath you can use mouthwash to get rid of the bacteria.
Do you want to have really clean teeth and not have discolored teeth? Then you need to clean them twice a day every day and floss your teeth.
We keep to keep our teeth healthy and clean so later on in life we don't have to waste money and time fixing them.
Procedure writing
How we brush our teeth
To clean your teeth properly and get white teeth you need to follow this procedure.
Firstly take your toothbrush out of the holder. Then pick up the tube of toothpaste. Flip the cap open and then put a pea sized blob of toothpaste in the bristles. Next rinse the toothbrush under running water you can have it hot or cold how ever you like it. After that gently in circles brush the front and the back of your jaw and your gum. Repeat this several times for to two minutes. If you want you can get the mouthwash out of the cupboard and fill the cap with mouthwash and put it in your mouth. Secondly you swirl it around in your mouth and spit it out in the sink. Now your teeth should be shiny and clean.

Swimming Recount
Swimming recount
On Monday the 2nd of march in the afternoon the whole of Te Kanawa walked to the Village pools in Havelock on a really hot day for a swim to do some swimming drills and how to do CPR on a dummy.
We got split into four groups, the groups were room 13, room 15, room 16 and room 17 we did four rotations Diving, treading water, CPR (on a dummy) and also a bucket challenge.
The drill that we did first was with Mr Stove. We had to try to get our whole team to the other side of the pool only using buckets. The rules were we weren't able to touch the side or the bottom of the pool with any of our body parts, if we did then we had to start from the start and do it all again.
After the first drill we went to Mr Birnie. We had to dive into the pool and then do dolphin dive to the ropes and back, then we had to do a corkscrew to the ropes and back (a corkscrew is when you spin around in the water doing freestyle and backstroke). The next Thing we did with Mr Birnie was doing a splash and dash to the other side of the pool doing freestyle.
Then we went to Miss Kimber for the third drill. We had to tread water for ten minutes and if you touched the side of the pool or the bottom then we were out, by avoiding that we could do whatever we wanted to do to keep yourself afloat. I think we managed to do ten minutes. Half way through the treating water Matt swallowed lots of water and then he had to get out of the pool and he nearly drowned.
The last skill was to practice doing CPR with Mrs Elmore. The steps that we had to do was to check if its clear then jump in the water and tap them to see if they are awake. If they're not responding then you pull them to shore. After that you see if they're breathing. If they're not, you put your fingers in their mouth to get out all of the vomit or whatever it in there, but not the tongue. After that start to push on the chest as hard as you can even if you break some bones. If they still don't respond then you do it again. My favorite drill was the bucket challenge where you have to get your team to the other side with Mr Stove
When we were walking back we walked past this old man and he was smoking a cigarette. He started to walk past us and his top teeth were false and they were hanging out of his mouth. It looked really creepy and funny.

About the treaty
The Treaty of Waitangi-Treaty 2 U
You are going to find out heaps about the Te Tiriti o Waitangi, the Treaty of Waitangi signed between Maori and Pakeha in 1840 at Waitangi in the Bay of Islands and then at various places throughout Aotearoa. So, we need to go to this cool site and do some reading of these chapters.
- » Treaty of Waitangi Te Tiriti o Waitangi
Firstly, as you read you are going to write down some interesting facts, like how many maori and pakeha signed the treaty and who they were, how many copies of the treaty were signed, and places where the treaty was signed- you write WHAT YOU THINK IS INTERESTING!
The aim is to find at least 10 interesting things. Number them down the page. Then think of a question you could ask ABOUT this interesting thing. For example:
Hōne Heke was the first of 45 powerful northern chiefs to sign the Treaty. Later he grew disappointed at the loss of trade with European ships as the British now controlled imports, and at challenges to his authority. From late 1844 he and his men repeatedly cut down the flagpole above the bay at Kororāreka (Russell). In March 1845 he cut it down again, and fighting broke out at Kororāreka, then spread throughout central Northland. (That’s a looooong example- you might say ‘Hone Heke was one of the first Maori to sign the treaty but later cut down the british flagpole at Russell)
Now, if there are words or ideas you are not sure of, read on or read back as a strategy.
Also, you must search for an image of the treaty and save it to this page; find a short youtube clip about the treaty and embed it with a link to this page, and paste a map of Aotearoa NZ which shows Waitangi onto this page- OK? Let’s get cracking!
1.Hobson sailed into the Bay of Islands on Wednesday, 29 January 1840. James Busby, to met him and the two began planning a treaty that would carry out their government's intentions.
- Why did he sail on the 29 why could it not be the 20?
2.Hobson struggled to write the treaty he wanted the rangatira to sign.
- Why did he struggle to sign the treaty what was the problem?
3.Busby was unimpressed with Hobson's efforts
- Why was Busby unimpressed with Hobsons effort?
4.Hobson explained the Treaty and urged the rangatira to sign it.
- Why did he need to argue to get rangatira to sign the treaty?
5.Throughout the day the rangatira debated.
- Why was rangatira debating about the treaty wouldn't he be happy to let other people in the country to make it a better country?
6.Still others thought it was dangerous.
- Why did people think it was dangerous?
7.By morning most rangatira had decided they should sign the Treaty after all
- What was the reason they wanted to change their mind?
8.Hobson said he could not discuss the Treaty that day but was allowed signatures
- why was he told to not discuss about it but he was allowed people to sign it?
9.We are free. We will not have a Governor
- Why do they not want a governor wouldn't they country go crazy?
10.Over forty rangatira (chiefs) signed the Treaty at Waitangi
- Why did over forty chiefs need to sign the treaty?
