Letter to room 17

Letter to room 17 2014

When I first walked into HNI I thought that it was going to be a really weird couple of years with all the bullying and the fights and all the romance but this year was not all that stuff.  I was really nervous at the start of the year because I didn't know where all of the classes where and what the teachers were like and if they were going to be mean or be alright.   This year has been a really good year and it has gone better than I thought it was going to be.  But I think that primary is still the best.

It was really fun when we went to the Aquarium and then went to the wharf for our inquiry the topic was fish for the future.  When we were at the wharf me, Lucas and Clay all caught a fish and Jack W cought the bottom of the sea.  Me and Lucas caught a Trevally and Clay caught a spotty back, then just before we left i caught a  really small cockabully.

Do you remember when we played that vocab game when you had to try and guess the word that was on the board and people said some weird things that weren't even close to what the word was.  Remember when Baylee said bikini instead of saying speedo

That was embarrassing when I broke the class clock and I did that by climbing onto the ladder then smacked my elbow on the clock the it fell down and the next thing I heard was a big smash and before I knew it I had broke the class clock that everyone looks at when they want to know what the time is.  Now everyone just looks at me and says “ yea Jake what's the time” but I really don't care because its not the end of the world

The funny part of the year was when Jack H was sitting doing nothing then miss Garland asked Jack a question then in the middle of the question he does a huge yawn and then everyone started to crack up laughing and then when he got  answer wrong he yelled out NOOOOOOOO!!!!

Next year I am going to try and work really hard but mainly on my reading and my spelling.

Art

For art we have been doing wood carving.  We had to design a picture and carve it out then print it on a bit of paper.

Inquiry reflections

I choose to work on factory farming  because I really feel bad about it and it grosses me out and I want to stop it.

When working with the group I choose to organize the milkshake day and find all of the resources.

The way my group worked together was all right because some of the group mucked around and didn't get much stuff done.  But most of the groups did really well to get everything done and finished.

Next time that I am in a group I will need to see if i can get more stuff done and communicate with the group.  So I know what to do and what the other people in the group are doing.

I predict that our group will raise a lot of money and will be able to help world animal protection and put a stop to factory farming and animal cruelty.

I feel great  of our groups effort because we have put good thought in what we are doing and even though our money  got denied but another door opened and we found another organisation that would take our money.  Our group did well to adjust to the change.

refection on social dancing

My thoughts about the dance are boring

We have been learning to do lots of different dances

I think we do Social Dancing because we practice for the social at the end of the year

Before we started Social Dancing, I felt annoyed because it was in our P.E time and I am not a dancer

I already had experience with no dancing

When I am doing dancing, I feel bored

I feel like this because I don't like dancing

Social Dancing would be better if it was not in P.E time

Axolotl report

This piece of writing will tell you all about axolotls and what the requirement to have one at home.

Diet
The axolotl can be cannibalistic or a carnivore.  Axolotls eat smaller things than itself like small fish.  It also likes to eat anything that goes into the tank that is able to fit into its mouth. axolotls will eat any food even if it is dead of alive and swallows the prey whole.

Appearance
axolotls come in different shapes and sizes.  Axolotls look like a lizard because it is an amphibian and some people call the axolotl a underwater lizard.  They also can come in a range of colors like creamy color and a darker color like brown or black.

Habitat
Axolotls will be found in water not on land.  Axolotls like to be in good water not dirty water and the temp of the water has to be 18 to 16 degrees celsius for the axolotl to be comfortable.  If the water is cold then the axolotls want eat as much and if the water is 24 degrees or over that could lead to death.  Also if the water is flowing quickly then the axolotls would be really stressed out.

Life cycle
The axolotl has an interesting life cycle.. Axolotls will start off as an egg thing then forms into a type of larva thing.Axolotls won't get eggs until they are 5 months old.  Boys won’t fully mature till they are six months old.  When the axolotls want to make eggs the male axolotl will raise their tail and releases a thing called spermatophore then get the female to follow the male axolotl.  Then the male takes the female over the spermatophore then it goes into the female and the female fertilises it and then she has eggs.

Axolotls can be a very good pet but make sure you have the requirements to keep the axolotls alive.

Chapter 8 revenge plan summery

Anthony and Jette were planning to do a revenge plan on Anthony enemies.  They went to the mall to spy on Kurt and his gang to play a prank on him.  The prank was to scare Kurt and his gang by getting a car and putting lights and sirens in the car so it would look like a police a car.  When they scared the gang away they were going to put one of the bikes on a flag pole.

Get rid of zoos

Why We Should Get Rid Of Zoos

We need to get rid of zoos because people are being cruel to animals.  This bit of writing will tell you the reasons to get rid of zoos and let them free.
Food
The food is really important because it keeps the animals alive. But some zoos don't give the animals enough food so they will be skinny and not healthy.Sometimes the food is not good food like rotten food and food that they don't like to eat.  So for a male lion they need to eat 15 pounds a day and for a female lion they need to eat 11 pounds a day.  Lions should be eating meat like deer meat and zebra meat, which is their favourite.  Lots of zoos do this and this is why I think that they should get rid of zoos because that is crull to the animals.
Enclosures
The enclosures at zoos are too small for the animals and the animals need more space to run around in.  If they don't have enough space then they get really stressed out and then if they get stressed you would not want to mess with them.  If an elephant is stressed out then it will rock it head side to side.  Have you ever seen a tiger walking back and fourth ?  If you have then it will be stressed out because it would like to run around and it would need more space.
Drink
The zookeepers at the zoos are not giving the animals enough water and sometime the water could be dirty witch they could get really sick and die.  Zoos would not want animals to die otherwise
that would give a bad reputation then people would not visit and they won't get any money to feed the animals.  That is cruel to just let the animals to die because the zookeepers did not give the animals enough water.
If you can treat humans properly then you should be able to treat animal the same way.  Just because animals are what they are does not mean you can treat them badly.  So I think that they should get rid of zoos so they can be free and do what they need and they can look after themselves.

We NEED class pet

Our class pet
bobby and John the pet axolotls

Have you ever seen a kid that is happy with a pet.  We need one so the whole class will be happy. the whole class will never be sad again.

we should get an axolotl and you might not need to bye it because you could get one or two off Ms Macaroy.

And you don't need to buy any food because they can eat worms and anything that they can fit into their mouth.
Each person in the class could take turns taking it home and feeding it in the weekends and holidays

We need to get an axolotl because everyone in the school has a class pet. We can make millions of money if we breed them and then sell the babies.
Miss Garland we need a class pet  because people aren't coming to school because we don't have a pet in the class and people won’t be always be gloomy.

You get payed so you can buy us a class pet.  That is your job to get us a class pet.

So make sure that you get a class pet and stop kids being sad and gloomy and they will always be happy until you get a pet.

Cross Country Expectations

On the 15th of August there is an event coming up it is the HNI school cross country.

I don't feel good about the cross country because I hate running and I came 6th last year and this year it would be harder because there are more people from different schools. I'm also feeling really nervous.

I think that I'm going to get a alight placing because there are some really good runners in year 7.  I also think that I'm  get a good placing because there are a lot of different schools.

Last week of homework for term 2 YAY!!!!!!!

The circulatory system

THE CIRCULATORY SYSTEM

The circulatory system is the system where the heart pumps blood around your body.  This explanation will tell you how the circulatory system works.

The heart is divided up into 4 parts, 2 are the atriums and they are above the 2 ventricles.  There are four gateways for the blood cells to go through that only open one way.  Then when the blood cells go to the atriums, the heart pushes the blood cells back through the circulatory system.

The red blood cells get the oxygen from the lungs and then takes the oxygen to the different parts of the body where it needs it.  When the red blood cells go back to the heart, there is the old oxygen which carries co2 or carbon dioxide that attaches to the red blood cells, so there is no old oxygen in your body.  There are two different tunnels the blood cells go through.  They are called arteries and the veins.  Arteries carry the oxygen and the veins carry co2.

When the blood cells get to the heart the heart takes the carbon dioxide to the lungs.  When the co2 gets to the lungs, the lungs make you breathe the co2 out of your body.

This is what the circulatory system is used for and how the blood is pumped around the body.  If you didn't have your circulatory system then you would not be able to breathe, and then you won't be able to pump blood around your body.

GET A HAIRCUT YA WOSSSY

GET A HAIRCUT YA WOSSY!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Lucan is a year twelve at St. Johns college Hastings.  He has gone to court because he thinks he can have long hair but the new school principal Mr Melloy thinks different.  Mr Melloys school has a rule about you have to have your hair out of our face and above your collar.  But lucan is doing all the right stuff but I think he should just get a haircut instead of going to court for just hair.  I think he should be a man and get a hair cut.

Digestive System

The digestive system is complicated because it goes through these places that you might not have heard before.  This explanation will tell you where your food goes.

Why we chew our food. We chew our food so we can absorb more nutrients and energy out of the food that we eat.  We also chew our food because it is really good for your teeth and it is easier to digest.

When you swallow your food it goes through your oesophagus and your muscles contract to push your food to your stomach.  Then it goes to your stomach and it forms to stomach acid.

Then it goes to your intestines but first goes through your small intestines and then your big intestines where it turns into feces.  Your intestines also have more bacteria in them.  The small intestine is located between the large intestines.  When it goes to your intestines it squeezes out the water of the food.

Then it goes out your rectum or also known as the exit.

octopus writing

OCTOPUS CARtoon
When gill the octopus launchers her self at the seagull she hits the fres to free bobby.  Then gill and bobby flop onto a commercial fishing boat that gets the fish for the fish and chip shop and then one of the guys on the boat put gil and bobby into a chilly bin with other fish.

When they reach the shore one of the men on the boat take the chilli bin to into the fish and chip shop.  Then the man tips bobby and gill and all the fish onto this chopping board and a big man comes with a butcher knife and chops the tentacles off bobby and gill and then puts them in a deep fryer to cook.  When they had been in there for 10mins they raped bobby and gill with some fish and chips.
Then a big fat man open the paper where bobby and gill and all the other creatures in the rapped up paper.  The fat man started to put his fat fingers onto gill and then the worst put it into his mouth and then he grabbed bobby and put him into his mouth.  suddenly there was a big splash and bobby saw gill and then rushed to see if she was alright then a whole lot of fish and chips started to hit them it was like meteors hitting them.

Bobby and gill woke up and they were lying in the water then a big rush of water started to drown them and they suddenly they were in a stinky mess with little brown things that they didn't know what they were.  Then they made a little home.  They lived happily ever after the END.

Rippa rugby

For the past two weeks we have been learning how to play rippa rugby.  The skills that we have been learning are passing, ripping and side stepping.  With passing we learnt that we should use our whole body not just our arms.  For the last session we were into two teams and then we had to wait for room 15 because we were going to play them in a game.  While we were waiting for them my team play a little game of touch rugby.  When they came we played a game and our class won.  I really enjoyed coaching my team and our team did really well.It was really fun playing rippa rugby.

The adventure at Waihi

THE ADVENTURE IN WAIHI

On the first day of the holidays, good friday we went to a family reunion at the Waihi motor camp.  There were people in our family from all sorts of places in New Zealand like wellington, Napier and many many more.  The things that we had planned for the reunion in waihi we were going do a walk through these mines. We were also going to have a look at this gold mine that they have been looking for gold since 1900.  Also me and my friend Oliver were going to go fishing for trout in a river right next to the campground that we were staying at.

The next day we decided to go for a walk at this place called the windows walk. But we had wait for some of the family because some of them were walking and some of them were biking. I was in the car with dad, my step mum, me and my sister.  We got there and while we were waiting we decided which was the best cave/tunnel to go through because there were multiple ways to go.  When we had decided witch walk to do we decided to do one that had on big long tunnel/cave that was pitch black and once we had decide then we were on our way.

When we reached the cave/tunnel most of us had a torch which was most of the girls because they were scared of the darkness.  As we were walking along the pitch black cave/tunnel we were getting wet because the top of the cave/tunnel was dripping with drops of water, getting all of us wet.

After we reached the end of the cave we had been walking for about one hour.  Then we asked these two ladies how long until we got back to the car park and said that it was  thirty minutes away.  We decided that we should carry on along the track but I had a feeling that we weren't going the right way because  we had come from the other way. But every parent says that they are always right so I carried on with the rest of the pack.  Then we reach this sign saying DICKEY FLAT CAMP GROUND and guess what... that was the wrong car park.  We carried on because it would have been another two hours until we got to the right car park. Then the worst happened it started to pour down with rain and we didn't know where we were and then we found out that we were no longer in Waihi.  We waited just in case the rain would stop but it didn't. Luckily my step mum got through to her mum and then said we need help and we are at dickey flat camp ground.  Ten  minutes later there was about five cars that came to our rescue.

At the end of the trip to Waihi and looking at all the caves and mine I had a great time.  But who knew you could get so lost in Waihi by just walking for two hours and then it can turn for the worst.  I think next the family might pick a town that is a little bigger that Waihi.

Kotahitanga Reflection

Kotahitanga Reflection

On Wednesday we were the manuhiri.  We had to get welcomed on to the school by room two.  I think we were good at staying quiet when they were doing their bit in the powhiri.  I think we need to improve on our song  because we were not loud enough and some of us did not know the words for it.  I felt really a little weird when we had to do the hongi the boys/tama and hand shake the girls/kotiro because I have never really done that before.
One Thursday we were the tangata whenua.  We had to welcome room four to the marae.  I think we were good at the new song te ahroha  because we were loud and so it sounded like we were proud of our song.  Ruma wha were good at at there song untina and their haka.  At the end of kotahitanga week, I am feeling really good that it is all over and it was a amazing experience.

Summarizing

WHAT IS SUMMARIZING?
When you look for the key words of the story and put it in your own words

What are key words?
Key words are words that are important.

Why is summarizing a good skill?
Summarizing is an important skill because you don't have to copy the writer .

ATHLETICS TRAINING

Today we did some athletics training we did long jump, shot put and discus.  I am not that good at long jump and I am pretty good at discus and shot put.  But on Tuesday next week we have athletics day and I am a little worried how I am going to go if I go bad or go good.  The best things I reckon I will do in is shot put discus and the 100 meter running race and all the other things I'm definitely not going to be good at or not get a good placing. I am still looking fowrd to athletics day and I hope I will do well.

Swimming sports

SWIMMING SPORTS
Displaying Year 7 Tabloids

On the 26th of February some kids went to the swimming sports at the village pools in the  Havelock   north.  There were 4 houses and they were Te Kanawa,
Shepard, Nepier, and Hillary. All of the teams raced and they did their chants and TK won the swimming sports because TK is the best. I raced in breaststroke, freestyle and I competed in the year seven relay team and I did the breaststroke part in the relay.  My favourite part of the whole thing was after the race because I could go home and rest.  In my races I did not that well but I'm still happy for how I went.

To compete or not compete

Sochi winter Olympics

In the Sochi winter Olympics in Russia some athletes in the slope style have chosen to not compete in the competition because the track is too dangerous and are worried that they could hurt themselves and end their courier and never compete again.  Some said that they would keep competing to show that they aren't scared and that they are pussies and represent their country and not let their sponsors down.

If I was one of the athletes I would stay because I would not want to let my country down and if I pull out then all those years of training would have gone to waste and then I would have to wait another four years until I can compete again.

Reason 1: You have trained all of your life trained all and then I would have gone to waste because you have trained and then you pulled out and then train for another three years so you could go to the next winter Olympics in four years time and a of money because you would of had to pay for the trainers and the person who tells you what to eat and the physio if you got hurt.

Reason 2: It has cost a lot of money to get there and then If you pull out you would of lost a lot of money because you would have had to paid for the flight, the gears, the trainer, all the physio and the chiropractor and even attending the Sochi Olympics.

TK swimming sports

Displaying DSCF1649.JPGToday we had the Te kanawa (TK) swimming sports at the village pools to see who the people that will be competing to swim against the other houses at HNI they are Hillary,Nepia and Shepard houses.  There are only one year seven class in TK and that is my class room seventeen and there are three other classes in our house and they are room sixteen, room fourteen and room thirteen and they are year eight classes.  It was good for our class because most of us were able to make it in to the competition thing against the other houses.

There were four races you could do and they were backstroke, freestyle, breaststroke and the last one was backstroke and if you wanted to you could to wits at the end if you could not swim a length of the village pool witch is twenty-five meters long.  I did the lengths of the pool and the race I did was breaststroke and I came second and Rowan just bet me by a couple of seconds but I was still happy with second place I didn't want to do the other races because I was not that got at freestyle and backstroke so I didn't want to race.  The race works by if you make into the top eight you in backstroke and the top six in the other races.
